Tokyo 2020 Olympic Medals to Be Made from Old Smartphones


Tokyo 2020 Olympics Medals will be produced using reused electronic gadgets, including disposing of smartphones, computerized cameras and other handheld games and laptops, Tokyo Organizing Committee said on Friday.
“Huge levels of support from the public and companies across Japan and from national and international athletes resulting in municipal authorities collecting about 47,488 tons of e-waste.” The committee says.
The arrangement was first shared back in the mid-year of 2018, however, it wasn’t known at the time how plausible it would turn out to be.
The non-legislative association which concocted the thought knew there was enough e-waste out there however expected to organize collection.
The Old Metals New Medals venture propelled an across the nationwide accumulation of disposed of electronic gadgets in April 2017 to attract consideration regarding the significance of maintainability.
Millions of smartphones and tons of old computerized items were given, by and large adding up to almost 50,000 tons of gadgets.
The advisory group met its objective of 2,700kg of bronze in June 2018, while right around 94 percent of the 30.3kg gold target and more than 85 percent of the 4,100kg silver target was met in October.

“It is estimated that the remaining amounts of metal required to manufacture all Olympic and Paralympic medals can be extracted from the devices already donated,” Tokyo 2020 organizers said in a statement.
The project is being bolstered by the mobile phone administrator NTT DOCOMO, the Japanese Government environmental Sanitation Center and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
As we all know at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, about 30% of the silver and bronze in medals originated from reused materials. According to the report the medal designs will be disclosed in summer 2019.
