TikTok Slapped With 5.7 Million Fine from FTC for Collecting Data from Children

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) fined the TikTok social organization with short music videos for $ 5.7 million.
The reason was an infringement of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). The Commission called the biggest punishment ever of cases.
In case you’re from the Indian, there are possibilities that you more likely than not caught wind of TikTok application, which was once known as Musical.ly.
The application as of late crossed 1 billion downloads on Google Play Store and App Store, out of which 250 million downloads are from India.
“The accounts [at TikTok] were publicly available by default. This meant that other users could view the biography, username, photo and video in the child’s profile. Although TikTok allowed to change the privacy settings so that only verified users could follow the account, profile photos and biography remained publicly available – and other users could send private messages to children.” US Federal Trade Commission said.
The FTC has requested TikTok to erase the information. Also, as of Wednesday, TikTok clients in the US will be required to confirm their age when they open the application.
“We are deeply concerned about the safety and privacy of our users,” the firm said. This is an ongoing commitment, and we are continuing to develop our protective measures in support of this.” TikTok further added.
Be that as it may, in the same way as other social networks, age confirmation on a trust premise an individual joining simply should give their date of birth so as to get around the check.
Regardless of this, TikTok said it would not ask existing clients in different nations, including the UK, to prove their age.
In the wake of being a standout amongst the most downloaded applications of 2018, TikTok has an expected base of 1 billion clients around the world.
