ASUU: LAUTECH WILL NOT RESUME NEW SEASON IF DEMANDS ARE NOT MET

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in LAUTECH has decided after a meeting on Tuesday that its members will not resume for the new session.
The Deputy Director of Student Affairs, Dr Azeem Ige, disclosed this to the Union of Campus Journalists, shortly after the meeting was concluded.
Following the announcement that the government of Osun state had released N500 million to LAUTECH on Friday, ASUU held a congress. However, the union have concluded that the new academic session would not be holding as the two state government are yet to meet their needs.
Dr Ige said, “The N500 million released to the school is not sufficient. It is barely enough to pay a month’s salary for lecturers. The weight bill of lecturers every month in LAUTECH is approximately N380 million”.
He lamented about how their 10 months salaries are still being owed; allowances, arrears from three to four years ago, including promotion and gratuity arrears and then pension.
“We cannot go on like this,” he said.
The ASUU Chairman confirmed the outcome in phone interview. He said “that is the decision of the congress.”
“The debts, the several arrears of salaries, promotions and EEE. Without all that in place, there wouldn’t be any new academic session.”
Dr. Ige further stated that “due to these irregularities, final year students would not be posted for NYSC this year.”
“We have no other choice,” he said.
